HKU’s SERVICE 100 FAIR: Launching Ceremony of the SERVICE100 AMBASSADOR Scheme, and SERVICE100 Roundtable

The University of Hong Kong's SERVICE 100 Fair, which will be held on 10th and 11th of November, is a two-day event that aims to promote the service spirit of the university. More than twenty booths have been set up at the fair for NGOs to introduce their service opportunities and for student groups to showcase their service projects. To reassure HKU members of their roles and continuous efforts in serving both local and global communities, the launching ceremony of The SERVICE 100 AMBASSADOR Scheme and a roundtable on "The Role of Service in Higher Education" will be highlighted at the fair. Details as below:
Launching Ceremony of SERVICE 100 AMBASSADOR Scheme
Date: Nov 10, 2011 (Thursday)
Time: 13:00-13:45
Venue: Sun Yat-sen Place (In case of bad weather, the activity will be held at KK Leung Concourse, G/F, KK Leung Building)
The SERVICE 100 AMBASSADOR scheme aims to honor HKU members' service effort and to inspire more to make lifelong contributions to the betterment of humanity. Recognition is made to individuals and families that have reached a certain hours of service.
There will be a sharing session by outstanding ambassadors, and the following student volunteers are invited to the ceremony for off-stage sharing:

She was involved in voluntary teaching, latrine construction and a mosquito net donation programme in Ghana with Go2Africa. At the fair, Jessy and her teammates will display a rocket stove, a fuel-efficient, clean-burning, cheap and simple wood/biomass-fuel based heating and cooking stove device, and their plans to promote the use of such device In the developing nations, with the aims to help reduce the lethal smoke produced by traditional cooking method, causing serious health problems to the local residents. |

He helped set up a disease monitoring system, along with other measures that improve the living standard in rural Cambodia with Humanity In Focus |

She helped constructing emergence houses for winter in southern Chile |

She helped rebuilding a demolished orphanage in rural Thailand with Chiang Rai Home Improvement Project |
A new round of recipients of SERVICE100 Fund will also be announced at the ceremony. Since summer 2011, the Fund has supported more than 20 projects with over HK$300,000 for a variety of community service locally and abroad

SERVICE100 Roundtable
Date: Nov 11, 2011 (Friday)
Time: 13:00-14:00
Venue: Sun Yat-sen Place (In case of bad weather, the activity will be held at KK Leung Concourse, G/F, KK Leung Building)
Alumni, Staff and student active in community service will discuss the topic on the role of service in higher education. Audiences are welcome to join to express their ideas. The forum will be chaired by Dean of Student Affairs of HKU, Dr. Albert Chau. Speakers include:

Besides the above events, winning photos of the SERVICE 100 Photo Competition will be displayed to demonstrate how students have been contributing to the Millennium Development Goals.
