About the speaker:
Joichi Ito is the director of the Media Lab at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is also general manager of Neoteny Labs, a start-up fund focusing on Asia and the Middle East, and chair of Creative Commons, an international copyright licencing system. He is affiliated with research institutes in Japan and the United States, and on the board of such non-profit organizations as The Mozilla Foundation and Global Voices
Ito has been recognized by magazines from Time, which named him as a member of the "Cyber-Elite" in 1997, to Businessweek, which in 2008 called him one of the "25 Most Influential People on the Web." He was selected by the World Economic Forum in 2001 as one of the "Global Leaders for Tomorrow." In 2011, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Oxford Internet Institute in recognition of his role as one of the world's leading advocates of Internet freedom.
