Inauguration Ceremony & first Jao Tsung-I Lecture in Chinese Culture
Utmost Social Standards in Chinese Tradition - the Literary Wen and the Ethical Ren Organized by Jao Tsung- I Petite Ecole, HKU and funded by Jao Studies Foundation, the Jao Tsung-I Lecture is established in honor of world-renowned sinologist Professor. Jao Tsung-I, to enhance scholarly and cultural exchange and academic excellence. Distinguished scholars in Chinese culture will be invited to share with the local academic community their insights of the art.
In this talk, Professor Léon Vandermeersch, who was born in France in 1928 and was formerly a Professor in the University of Paris7 and Director of Research-Work in Paris Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes (EPHE) (Professorship in History of Confucianism), will speak on the Literary Wen and the Ethical Ren, which are the highest Social Standards in Chinese Tradition.

HKU to hold the 186th Congregation to confer Honorary Degrees upon four outstanding individuals
Dr the Honourable David K.P.Li, Pro-Chancellor of the University of Hong Kong (HKU), will confer honorary degrees upon four outstanding individuals at the 186th Congregation on March 15, 2012 (Thursday) at 5:30 pm in Loke Yew Hall, HKU. Honorary Degrees are awarded to individuals in recognition of their distinguished service and commitment to the University, the community, and to academia. They are also conferred to those who have made valuable intellectual, social and cultural contributions to society and the world.
The honorary degree recipients are:
Doctor of Laws honoris causa
Daw AUNG SAN Suu Kyi (in absentia)
Doctor of Science honoris causa
Professor Sir Leszek Krzysztof BORYSIEWICZ
Dr John Craig VENTER
Professor XU Zhihong
