Professor Wu Jinglian speaks on “Comprehensive Plan and Top-Level Design for China's Reforms”

China renowned economist Professor Wu Jinglian will visit the University of Hong Kong (HKU) as its first Sin Wai-Kin Distinguished Visiting Professor in the Humanities. On March 23 (Friday), he will speak at a public forum with a theme of Comprehensive Plan and Top-Level Design for China's Reforms. Other speakers include Professors Richard Wong, Lawrence Lau and He Weifang.
The forum is jointly organized by the Hong Kong Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences and the Hong Kong Institute of Economics and Business Strategy of HKU.
A press conference will be held before the public forum where Professor Wu will answer questions concerning contemporary China economic development.

Biography of Professor Wu Jinglian
Professor Wu Jinglian was born in Nanjing in 1930, and graduated from Department of Economics of Fudan University in 1945. Since 1984, he has been a Research Fellow at the Development Research Center of the State Council of the People's Republic of China (currently Senior Research Fellow), Deputy Director of the Office for the Panel on Economic Reforms Project of the State Council, Standing Committee Member of the 9th and 10th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and The Advisory Committee for State Informatization (ACSI). As an academic, Wu holds professorship at the Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Peking University, and the China Europe International Business School. He was also visiting scholar at Yale University, Oxford University, Stanford University, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Wu is one of the most influential economists in contemporary China. He was presented the first China Economics Award in March 2005 in recognition of his contributions in theoretical economics and China's economic reform. He co-founded the Chinese comparative institutional analysis, making him one of the forefathers of market economy theories in China. He has also given numerous valuable policy advices in the course of reform and development of China, in areas such as private enterprises and competitive market systems.
Sin Wai-Kin Distinguished Visiting Professor in the Humanities, HKU
Dr Sin Wai-Kin established the "Sin Wai-Kin Distinguished Visiting Professorship in the Humanities" in 2011 with the aim of attracting exceptional scholars of the humanities to visit the University of Hong Kong. The academic exchanges aim at shaping up the long-term development of the discipline in Hong Kong and beyond.
