HKU Faculty of Engineering to hold Engineering Centenary Distinguished Lecture

The Faculty of Engineering of the University of Hong Kong (HKU) will hold the second Engineering Centenary Distinguished Lecture tomorrow (May 24). The lecture entitled "Shaping a City - Hong Kong Architects' Impact on Society" will be delivered by Mr Edward S T Ho. Based on Mr Edward Ho's personal experience and observations, he will reflect on how architectural graduates of the Hong Kong University since the 1950s shaped our city, their impact on our society, and opportunities and challenges for professional now and for the future.
Professor Roland T Chin, HKU Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost, will be the officiating guest at the lecture. The lecture is sponsored by Shiu Wing Steel Ltd.

Mr. Edward S. T. Ho
Edward S. T. Ho SBS JP, a graduate of the University of Hong Kong, is an architect by profession and is Group Chairman of Wong Tung Group of Companies. Mr. Ho has wide ranging architectural experience in Hong Kong, Mainland China and the US. An award-winning architect, he is a Past President of the Hong Kong Institute of Architects, and was awarded the 1992 HKIA Prize for Outstanding Community Services for Benefits of the Institute and the Profession. Mr. Ho was an Honorary Professor of the Faculty of Architecture from 1998 to 2010 and is presently Advisory Professor of Tongji University, Shanghai.
On public service, Mr. Ho is a former member of the Legislative Council from 1987 to 2000. He also served on the Executive Council and a number of statutory boards and advisory committees, including the Town Planning Board, the Housing Authority where he was Chairman of the Building Committee, Chairman of the Antiquities Advisory Board, Chairman of the Hong Kong Industrial Estates Corporation and a member of the Hospital Authority. Mr. Ho was also Chairman of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Society, and is currently Chairman of Opera Hong Kong.
