HKU Faculty of Engineering to release result of "Visibility Measurement Method Design Competition" for primary and secondary school students

The "Visibility Measurement Method Design Competition" aims to enrich students' knowledge in both engineering and meteorology. It is organized by the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Hong Kong (HKU) and the Hong Kong Observatory (HKO), supported by Hong Kong Meteorological Society and Community Weather Information Network (Co-WIN), and funded by HKU Knowledge Exchange Office.
A total of 26 teams of primary and secondary school students from 16 schools, consisting more than 140 students and teachers, competed in Junior and Senior categories of the competition to design visibility measurement methods over a four and a half months period. Participants did background studies, attended workshops, wrote programs and/or built hardware for visibility measurement before presenting their findings in front of a panel of six expert judges. The result of the competition will be announced at the Award Presentation Ceremony on July 7 (Saturday).
The Guests of honour included Prof. Norman C. Tien, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, HKU; Mr. Edwin Lai Sau Tak, Acting Assistant Director, HKO and representatives of supporting organizations.
