Updates on HKU Residential Colleges on Lung Wah Street (Sept 8)
08 Sep 2012
In response to media enquiries about the Residential Colleges in Lung Wah Street, the university has the following reply:
The formaldehyde readings of the 16 indoor air samples received on September 8 (Saturday) in Blocks A and B are all below 100ug/m3, meeting the ‘Good Class’ standard’ set by the Environmental Protection Department of the HKSAR Government. The readings of air samples have met the standard for a third consecutive day. The university will continue to monitor the indoor formaldehyde level and maintain maximum air ventilation in all the rooms of the Colleges. Our plan remains that when the measurements consistently meet the ‘Good Class’ standard, students will move back to the Residential Colleges.
The implementation of the contingency accommodation plan has entered the fourth day. As of 5:30pm today, a total of 386 students have been arranged to check into nearby hotels, hostels, or other university residences, including students arriving yesterday and today. Student helpers continue to offer on-site assistance to the newly arrived students.
