The Faculty of Engineering of the University of Hong Kong (HKU) held on October 5 (Friday) its fourth Engineering Centenary Distinguished Lecture entitled “How we are where we are today” delivered by Ir BLAKE, Ronald James, GBS, OBE, JP.
Ir James Blake is a civil engineer by profession. He was the Chief Officer of Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation. At the lecture, Ir Blake shared his thoughts and views on the infrastructure development of Hong Kong and gave insights into the growth of infrastructure that stands today as one of the territory’s fundamental achievements.
HKU Dean of Engineering Professor Norman C. Tien officiated at the lecture. The lecture was sponsored by Gammon Construction Limited.
“In the past 10 decades, infrastructure development has been one of the major driving forces of Hong Kong’s economy,” said Professor Norman C. Tien.
“HKU Faculty of Engineering has an incredible legacy that has completely intertwined it with the development of Hong Kong. As one of the oldest Faculties of Engineering in the region, we provided modern engineers for the city, contributed expertise and research to contribute to the city’s transformation from manufacturing centre to global financial centre, a world class city today with the necessary and high quality facilities,” he added.
The lecture has attracted more than two hundred attendees from both the engineering community and the academia.
