Engineering Centenary Distinguished Lecture

The Faculty of Engineering of the University of Hong Kong (HKU) held on October 29 its fifth Engineering Centenary Distinguished Lecture entitled “Bing Dialog Model: Intent, Knowledge and Interaction” delivered by Dr Harry Shum, FIEEE, FACM.
Dr Harry Shum is the Corporate Vice President responsible for search product development at Microsoft Corporation. At the lecture, Dr Harry Shum described Bing Dialog Model in details and demonstrated it in action through innovative features, in particular by applying social contexts and entity understanding for user task completion. He also shared some challenges and opportunities in building Bing as a compelling brand in consumer internet services.
HKU Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost Professor Roland T Chin officiated at the lecture. The lecture was sponsored by VTech Holdings Limited.
“The internet search industry has experienced remarkable changes over the past decade. Dr Shum, as the pioneer of Bing Dialog Model, brought the most advanced technology and thoughts to the centennial campus tonight.” said Professor Roland T Chin.
“The Engineering Centenary Distinguished Lecture Series is one of the highlighted events which aim to network our alumni and the community leaders and to foster exchange of ideas on topics relevant to the society. Tonight I have great pleasure to witness the successful holding of the fifth lecture. I believe everyone present will enjoy the sparks of wits generated during the lecture and discussion.” he added.
The lecture has attracted more than 150 attendees from both engineering community and the academia.
