<Life and Death Education training and service program>
Report on program effectiveness and future development
31 Oct 2012
This project is supported by the University of Hong Kong Knowledge Exchange Fund to promote academic-medical-social enterprise collaboration.
During the summer of 2012, the Department of Social Work and Social Administration and the Centre on Behavioral Health of the University of Hong Kong; the Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital; and the Hong Kong Social Enterprise Incubation Centre jointly provided a Life and Death education and training course to cancer survivors and local college students and arranged them to visit and accompany terminally ill patients after the training.
By utilizing professional knowledge from the three parties, this project aimed at promoting life and death education as well as strengthening service learning among local college students. Besides, the training empowered the cancer survivors to make the best use of their personal experiences in helping other cancer patients and in turn enhance their own psychological wellbeing and resilience.
This project aimed at raising public awareness of hospice care in Hong Kong and hope that terminally ill patients would get more appropriate physical, psychological, social and spiritual care.
