An update on the dental incident of the HKU University Health Service Dental Unit November 4, 2012.
The University of Hong Kong Health Service (UHS) Dental Unit has attempted to reach all the students, staff and their dependents who were treated from October 30 to November 2 at the clinic, after some dental instruments were found not having gone through all the procedures of sterilisation.
As of today (November 4), of the 254 affected persons, the UHS managed to contact 237. For the rest, the UHS has sent e-mails, text messages and / or voice mails, and will continue to contact them.
So far, 148 persons have taken blood test. Once the results are known, the UHS will contact each and every patient, informing him or her the test results and if there is any follow up actions required.
The UHS and the University’s Microbiology professors will work closely together to take all necessary measures to safeguard the health and well being of the affected people.
The UHS will follow up all these people again 6 months later for a second blood test to ensure that they are not affected by this incident.
