HKU to hold Kick-off Ceremony of SERVICE 100 Week

A ceremony to kick off the SERVICE 100 Week and to present awards of the SERVICE 100 Fund will be held tomorrow (November 13) at Sun Yat-sen Place of the University of Hong Kong (HKU).
The theme of the ceremony is “Pledge for Poverty Eradication”. Students, staff and alumni who are active in community service will at the ceremony share their service missions with the audiences and their experience taking part in service projects in Hong Kong and overseas which include:
- The “Better Health, Better Lives, Better Future” project launched by a group of students in January 2012 aiming to improve water quality and hygiene awareness in orphanages in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
- The “Do small things with GREAT Love” project launched by another group of students who went to Ghana to teach English, Computer, personal hygiene and life skills in an orphanage.

The “Colorful HeART” project with workshops at Hong Kong Red Cross John F. Kennedy Centre since October. A group of physically or mentally challenged children and an HKU student group “ShineR” were trained to complete a 1 metre x 17 metre mosaic artwork piece in celebration of the school’s anniversary this December.

Venue: Sun Yat-sen Place, HKU
A two-day SERVICE 100 Fair will also be held from November 13 to 14 (Tuesday and Wednesday) from 12:30pm to 4 pm at the Sun Yat-sen Place.
