HALF THE SKY: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide

Launched in the States on October 1, 2012, Half the Sky is a documentary from the Pultzer-winning New York Times Journalists Nick Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn. Equally heartbreaking and inspirational, Half the Sky features stories of women and girls from around the world and shows us how we can all be part of a movement that is sweeping across the globe right now. All proceeds will go towards Room to Read's Girls' Education Programme.
Students of a Common Core Course “Poverty, Development, and the Next Generation: Challenges for a Global World” led by Dr Chad Lykins of the HKU Faculty of Education, HKU have a chance to get involved with the meaningful initiative. The Faculty of Education will hold the HALF THE SKY: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide jointly organized by Room to Read with details as follows:

Venue: Loke Yew Hall, HKU
A screening of a selection of clips from the documentary television series featuring Room to Read will be broadcasted followed by a discussion with Erin Ganju, CEO and Co-Founder of Room to Read, a moderation by CNN’s Ellana Lee, Vice President and Managing Editor for CNN International Asia Pacific, and a sharing by HKU Student in the Common Core Course.
