HKU Faculty of Arts to hold exhibition opening and memorial gathering for Professor Leung Ping-kwan (Yesi)
29 Jan 2013
The "Good Company: Leung Ping-kwan's Hong Kong" Exhibition commemorates the work of our city's foremost literary voice, Yesi, who sadly passed away on January 5, 2013. The exhibition is inspired by Leung Ping-kwan's collaboration with nine artist friends and communicates their shared vision of Hong Kong. Five of the exhibits, including a photograph taken by Yesi, have not been shown before. The nine artist photographers are Leong Ka Tai, Raymond Chan Wai Man, Alfred Ko Chi Keung, Lee Ka Sing, Wong Kan Tai, Wong Wo Bik, Michael Wolf, So Hing Keung and Kwan Pun Leung.
Poetry and literary creation were central to Yesi's life; so was friendship. The exhibition shows how friendship and poetry can nourish each other, displaying the author's poems alongside his friends' photographs. It also offers a bibliographical survey of Leung Ping-kwan's work in three genres - poetry, prose, fiction – from earlier to more recent times. The exhibition, held as part of the Faculty of Arts Centenary and co-organized by the University of Hong Kong Libraries, will run from 30 January to 1 March 2013.
The Opening Ceremony for the exhibition will be held tomorrow (Wednesday, January 30). The Dean of Arts, Professor Kam Louie, University Librarian, Mr Peter Sidorko, and Professor Elaine Ho of the School of English will officiate at the Ceremony.
