“Nurturing Your Children’s Creativity and Talent Development: Some Practical Tips for Parents and Teachers”

The Faculty of Education, in support of the University’s drive to strengthen knowledge exchange, one of the three strategic themes of the University’s Strategic Development, takes the initiative in knowledge sharing with the public by organizing a series of education seminars for parents. The past seminars on Mathematics, English, Liberal Studies, Information Technology, sending children abroad, the ways in using voice to teach children held in 2010, 2011 and 2012 received enthusiastic response.
The Faculty will hold the 7th seminar on “Nurturing Your Children’s Creativity and Talent Development: Some Practical Tips for Parents and Teachers” in February 2013. The focus will be on gifted education and talent development of children and students as well as the practical ways for teachers and parents to explore the potentials of children with the sharing of the talented children and youth.
In the seminar, the following issues will be discussed:
• How to develop your child’s talent?
• How to enhance your child’s creativity?
• What works? Suggestions for parents and teachers?
Dr Yuen Man Tak is an Associate Professor and the Director of Centre for Advancement in Inclusive and Special Education of the HKU Faculty of Education. He is also a Registered Counselling Psychologist, Educational Psychologist, and Delegate of World Council for Gifted and Talented Children. His academic and professional interests are in the areas of school guidance and counseling, gifted education and talent development, inclusive education and learners with special needs, social-emotive learning, life career development, and individual differences. Dr Cheung Wai Ming is also an Associate Professor of the Faculty. She has rich experience in school-based curriculum development. Her professional interests are in Chinese Language education, creativity, phenomenography, teacher professional development, gifted education, bilingual education, etc. Dr Cheung has engaged in several international researches such as “The Same Theoretical Approach in Two Different Cultures” with Kristianstad University, Sweden and “Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS)” in 2006 and 2011.
