Education Seminar Series (7) “Nurturing Your Children’s Creativity and Talent Development: Some Practical Tips for Parents and Teachers”
The Faculty of Education, in support of the University’s drive to strengthen knowledge exchange, one of the three strategic themes of the University’s Strategic Development, takes the initiative in knowledge sharing with the public by organizing a series of education seminars for parents. This latest seminar in the series will be on gifted education and talent development of children and students as well as the practical ways for teachers and parents to explore the potentials of children with the sharing of the talented children and youth.
In the seminar, the following issues will be discussed:
• How to develop your child’s talent?
• How to enhance your child’s creativity?
• What works? Suggestions for parents and teachers?
The speakers, Dr Yuen Man Tak is the Director of Centre for Advancement in Inclusive and Special Education of the HKU Faculty of Education, and is a Registered Counselling Psychologist, Educational Psychologist, and Delegate of World Council for Gifted and Talented Children; Dr Cheung Wai Ming is an Associate Professor of the Faculty, she has rich experience in school-based curriculum development.

HKU “We Are With You” Project kick-off ceremony
A ceremony to mark the ‘We Are With You’ Project will be held on this Saturday (February 23) at Caritas Community Centre – Aberdeen to kick-off the 4-year community development project in Southern District supported by the Chow Tai Fook Charity Foundation. Mrs. Carrie Lam, Chief Secretary of Administration, HKSAR Government, Dr. Henry Cheng, Honorary Chairman of Chow Tai Fook Charity Foundation, Ms. Maggie Chan, Director – Social Work Services of Caritas Hong Kong will be the Guest of Honor while Professor Lap-Chee Tsui, Vice-Chancellor and President of HKU will preside over the ceremony.
On this day, it also marks the HKU Dumpling Making and Visit to the Elderly Service Day, where over 100 HKU students and secondary school students in the district will make dumplings together and deliver them to the elderly in the district, so as to bring them festive joy and warmth during the Lunar Chinese Year.

Public Forum on Housing and Land in Hong Kong: Policies, Issues and Debates
The Hong Kong Institute of Planners, Centre of Urban Studies and Urban Planning and the Affordable Housing Research Network of the University of Hong Kong (HKU) will jointly organize a “Public Forum on Housing and Land in Hong Kong: Policies, Issues and Debates” tomorrow (February 23, Saturday) at the University.
The forum aims to provide a platform for the government, related professionals and the community to exchange views on housing and land policies. Mr Duncan Pescod, Permanent Secretary for Transport & Housing (Housing) cum Director of Housing, HKSAR Government; Professor Rebecca Chiu, Professor of the Department of Urban Planning and Design, HKU; and Professor Richard Wong, Chair Professor of the School of Economics and Finance, HKU will speak at the forum.

Judging Immigration: National Privilege and International Duties

Starting from the principle that it is for the legal system of an individual territory to decide what access foreigners will have to it, Mr Ockelton will explore some of the obligations imposed by international Conventions, including the ICCPR and the CAT. He will explore the developing interpretation of Convention duties with particular reference to decisions of the Court of Final Appeal of the HKSAR, and will briefly examine the process by which individual claims are characterised and assessed.
Mark Ockelton is the Vice President of the Upper Tribunal in the United Kingdom, and also sits in the High Court and the Crown Court in England and Wales. He is a Bencher of Lincoln's Inn. He has great experience in immigration, refugee and human rights cases and has been involved in the training of members of the Hong Kong Torture Claims Appeal Board.
