HKU to hold ‘We Are With You’ Project Kick-off Ceremony

A ceremony to mark the ‘We Are With You’ Project will be held tomorrow (February 23, Saturday) at Caritas Community Centre – Aberdeen to kick-off the 4-year community engagement project in Southern District supported by the Chow Tai Fook Charity Foundation. Mrs. Carrie Lam, Chief Secretary of Administration, HKSAR Government, Dr. Henry Cheng and Honorary Chairman of Chow Tai Fook Charity Foundation will be the Guests of Honour while Professor Lap-Chee Tsui, Vice-Chancellor and President of HKU, and Ms Maggie Chan, Director, Social Work Services of Caritas Hong Kong will preside over the ceremony.

The University of Hong Kong received HK$10million funding from the Chow Tai Fook Charity Foundation to launch the social innovative project on community development in Southern District. With their passion and commitment to serve the community, students and staff of HKU will contribute to community development, improve the condition of the underprivileged groups and empower them to improve their own conditions in the long run. The project, “We Are With You” is also an experiential learning opportunity for HKU students to apply their knowledge and skills and engage in action to address a concern of the community. In align with the University’s theme of “Knowledge, Heritage, Service”, this unique opportunity reaffirms HKU’s commitment to building a better world and encourage our students to be socially responsible leaders. It is estimated that 1,500 HKU students and staff will participate in at least 80 projects benefitting more than 16,000 service recipients.

On this day, it also marks the HKU Dumpling Making and Visit to the Elderly Service Day, where over 100 HKU students and secondary school students in the district will make dumplings together and deliver them to the elderly in the district, so as to bring them festive joy and warmth during the Lunar Chinese Year.
