HKU Faculty of Dentistry and Indonesian Consulate General to hold briefing for Oral Health Program for Indonesian Domestic Helpers

The Faculty of Dentistry at The University of Hong Kong (HKU) and the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Hong Kong will hold a Dental Mobile Clinic as part of a joint 2-year Oral Health Program for Indonesian Domestic Helpers in Hong Kong on 28 April 2013 (Sunday).
The briefing will be attended by Mr Hari Budiarto, Acting Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia. Also in attendance will be Ms Sendra Utami, Consul for Labour of Indonesia Consulate General; Mr Kit-man Cheung, Chairman of the ASOSIASI PPTKI HONG KONG; and Faculty representatives, Professor Edward Chin-man Lo and Professor Colman McGrath, both HKU Clinical Professors in Dental Public Health.
In addition, an Indonesian domestic helper participating in the oral health program will give remarks at the briefing.
The details of the briefing of the Oral Health Program are as follows:

Demonstration in Dental Mobile Clinic: 10:30 am - 11:00 am, IPC Room
The whole-day Dental Mobile Clinic will provide free check-ups and basic treatment, advice on any necessary further treatment, a list of NGO-clinics, tailored oral hygiene instructions, and child/elder oral care education to 250 Indonesian domestic workers who have been nominated by their employment agencies.
The Oral Health Program for Indonesian Domestic Helpers in Hong Kong consists of 4 parts: (1) Mobile Dental Clinics at the Indonesian Consulate; (2) Oral Health Booths for Indonesian domestic workers; (3) Train-the-Trainers sessions for employment agencies; and (4) Oral health-related occupational training organised by employment agencies.
The Program will provide a total of 100,000 Indonesian domestic workers and 200 employment agencies with free oral health education and advice on oral hygiene techniques for self-care and care of children and elders. In addition, the Dental Mobile Clinics will provide oral check-ups for a total of 1000 Indonesian domestic workers.
Supported by a grant from the Health Care and Promotion Fund of the HKSAR Food and Health Bureau, and co-organised by HKU and the Consulate of Indonesia, the Oral Health Program for Indonesian Domestic Helpers in Hong Kong aims to improve the oral health and knowledge of Indonesian domestic workers, who form the majority of Hong Kong’s foreign domestic helper workforce. Project collaborators are the ASOSIASI PPTKI HONG KONG and local dentist and dental hygienist volunteers. In addition, oral care products have been donated by Colgate-Palmolive HK Ltd, and permission to translate and adapt oral health care leaflets was granted by the HKSAR Department of Health.
