HKU Faculty of Dentistry to hold oral health exhibition on World No Tobacco Day
29 May 2013
The Faculty of Dentistry at The University of Hong Kong will be holding an oral health exhibition for the public in the lobby of the Prince Philip Dental Hospital on 31 May 2013 to mark World No Tobacco Day.
Many organisations around the globe are holding World No Tobacco Day events on 31 May 2013 to highlight the health risks related to smoking and to advocate for effective policies to curb tobacco consumption. According to the World Health Organization, tobacco use currently accounts for 1 in every 10 adult deaths worldwide and on average, one person dies every 6 seconds due to tobacco.
To raise personal awareness of the health risks of smoking and to encourage quitting, the HKU Faculty of Dentistry’s information desk and poster displays will let the public know about the health effects of where the smoke goes first—in the mouth—as well as elsewhere in the body. The main aim is to promote oral and general health, and for people to arrange regular dental visits as a way of discussing smoking and quitting with a health care professional. Entry is free and registration is not required. The details are as follows:
Date: May 31, 2013 (Friday)
Time: 9am – 6pm
Venue: Lobby of the Prince Philip Dental Hospital
Address: 34 Hospital Road, Sai Ying Pun, Hong Kong
E-mail enquiries: dentke@hku.hk
Dentist volunteers from the Faculty will also be available throughout the day to give general advice on oral health and tips on quitting. In addition, there will be a Lucky Draw, free information packs will be handed out, and free sugar-free gum and an apple will be given to the first 200 visitors.
