An "HKU spokesperson" responds to media enquiries regarding the Faculty of Dentistry
04 Sep 2015
"The University of Hong Kong has been following the UGC guidelines to ensure the public fund allocated for the University will not be used to cross-subsidise self-funded programmes. The self-funded programmes by all Faculties, including the Faculty of Dentistry, have been operating in compliance with the cost-recovery guidelines of the University.
The postgraduate courses offered by the Faculty of Dentistry constitute a special case, that the arrangement of courses has involved Prince Phillip Dental Hospital under Food and Health Bureau. In view of this, the University and the Bureau have had active discussion for appropriate arrangements to be made accordingly. The Faculty of Dentistry reiterated that, the students in the education programmes concerned have been providing dental care for the patients, the Faculty has never obtained any benefits generated from these. The dental programmes have gained very good evaluation from dental specialist experts in Asia, Europe and America."
