HKU appoints Vice-President (Academic Staffing and Resources)

The Council of the University of Hong Kong has at its meeting today (May 31) approved the appointment of Professor Terry Au as the Vice-President and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic Staffing and Resources) (VP & PVC (ASR)) with effect from June 1, 2016 until June 30, 2019.
Professor Au graduated from Harvard University in 1982 and obtained a PhD degree from Stanford University in 1987. She started her academic career in the United States, first as Assistant Professor and Associate Professor at Brown University, and then as Associate Professor and Professor at University of California, Los Angeles. She joined the University of Hong Kong in July 2002 as Chair of Psychology and was appointed as Head of the Department from 2003-2005 and 2007-2008. Professor Au has wide experience in human resources management in the University, having served as member of various Promotion and Tenure Panels and the University Selection and Promotion Committee. She was Chairperson of the Promotion and Tenure Panels of the following Faculties: Education from 2007-2011, Dentistry from 2011-2015, and Business & Economics from 2015-2017. She took up the position of interim VP & PVC (ASR) on a half-time basis as approved by the Council on January 26, 2016.
President Professor Peter Mathieson welcomed Professor Au to her new role. He said: “Since taking up the interim role in the last four months, Terry has embarked on a number of initiatives and contributed to the review and reform of various academic-related HR policies and procedures. We are very fortunate that she is willing to take up the substantive role and continue her good work to move the University forward. We will benefit from her wisdom, her knowledge and her experience in formulating university strategies and policies.”
