Two premier universities combine strengths of
Asia and Europe to develop future global leaders
09 Jul 2017
The University of Hong Kong (HKU) and Sciences Po, the leading university in France for social sciences, announced the graduation of the first cohort of their double Bachelor’s degree programme. Five students from the HKU-Sciences Po Dual Degree are expected to graduate this year.
Being the first programme of this kind between France and Hong Kong, this double degree provides students with the opportunity to graduate from leading French and Hong Kong universities. Students graduate from Sciences Po’s pluridisciplinary College (Bachelor of Arts in History, Law, Economics, Sociology and International relations) and from one of the following HKU faculties : Business and Economics, Arts or Social Sciences.
Worldwide applicants are jointly admitted by the two institutions for this highly selective programme: students spend their first two years in France on one of Sciences Po’s campuses (Le Havre, Reims or Menton) and then their third and fourth year at HKU. No prior knowledge of French is required for this English-taught programme but students are encouraged to learn and practice their French while in Sciences Po. The objective of this dual degree is for students to gain an in-depth understanding of global issues from Asian and European perspectives and to build professional networks in two different parts of the world. The two institutions take pride in this highly competitive degree which currently has fourteen students enrolled.
“The Dual Degree is ideal for anyone interested in politics and international relations,” explained Mehdi Ould-Elhkim, one of the graduating Politics and Public Administration students of the first cohort of HKU-Sciences Po Dual Degree. “It is great for students to move on from studying Middle East at Sciences Po to getting insights about East Asia and China through HKU, with both regions playing important roles in shaping Eurasia’s politics and economics. It is also exciting for me to be a part of HKU, which has people in very diverse fields of academia and where I can befriend people from all sorts of backgrounds, like engineering and biochemistry. The Dual Degree has given me an advantage in job searching as employers nowadays look for employees with multiple skills and a global vision. The unique experience of learning from both the European and Asian view point makes me articulate my thoughts clearly in a cosmopolitan environment”.
