The University of Hong Kong (HKU) has received excellent results in the recent announcement by the Research Grants Council (RGC) on a number of competitive peer-reviewed research funding schemes.
HKU has competed in and secured both the highest number of approved projects and the largest share of funding in both the General Research Fund (GRF) and Early Career Scheme (ECS). The University is awarded a total of HK$212 million for 265 projects in the General Research Fund (GRF); and HK$32 million for 44 projects in the Early Career Scheme (ECS), which is 50% of the applications and the highest amongst institutions.
The University also demonstrated notable success in the 10th round of the Theme-based Research Scheme (TRS) by participating in six out of seven funded projects, and is the coordinating institution in five projects. It was also awarded 2 out of 8 funded projects in the Humanities and Social Sciences Prestigious Fellowship Scheme (HSSPFS), which is a solid testimony of the quality and caliber of our senior academics in the humanities and social science disciplines.
HKU Acting Vice-President and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) Professor Alfonso Ngan offered his warmest congratulations to all successful applicants and their research teams and wished them success in the deliverables of these projects.
“I wish to thank all the researchers for their effort and hope they will continue to identify novel ideas to address pertinent problems in their fields, and continue to advance research in terms of quality, impact, innovation value and community outcomes.”
