The University of Hong Kong (HKU) is pleased to learn that the Hon. Mrs. Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, the Chancellor of HKU, has appointed Ms. Priscilla Wong Pui-sze as Chairman of the HKU Council for a term of three years from January 1, 2022. Ms. Wong will succeed current Council Chairman Professor Arthur Li, who will have completed six years in the post.
The President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Xiang Zhang welcomes the appointment of Ms. Wong. He said: “Ms. Wong has made significant contributions as a Council Member, and we are delighted that she has been appointed to help steer the strategic direction of the University’s governance in the coming years.”
The Council Chairman designate Ms. Wong said: "It is a privilege to be able to continue serving the HKU community and my alma mater. I am very pleased to see all the remarkable achievements that the University has made during Professor Li’s Council chairmanship. I am pleased to take up this new role to support and guide the new initiatives of the University, including its local and regional development plans, recruiting more international faculty, and strengthening its partnerships with institutions around the world to enhance the University’s international reputation.”
Ms. Wong is an HKU alumna and was appointed as an HKU Council member in March 2017. She is a practicing barrister with extensive experience in litigation, especially in intellectual property, general civil litigation as well as mediation and arbitration.
Professor Zhang thanked Professor Arthur Li for his significant contributions as Council Chairman for the past six years.
“With the full support of Professor Li and the Council, the University has been able to attract and nurture global scholars, further its academic and research endeavours and kickstart a number of capital projects. We would like to offer our greatest gratitude to Professor Li for his dedication, vision and leadership in steering the University through many challenges,” said Professor Zhang.
Professor Li said he is very honoured to have served as the Chairman of the Council of the University, witnessing its excellent academic performance and expansion plans in Hong Kong and Shenzhen for the past six years. The University has received a record amount of donations during the past years, for which he specially wanted to express his gratitude to the many benefactors and supporters for their generous contributions and pledges. He is confident that there will be a great future for the University in the coming decade.
