30 Apr 2023
The 26th Recognition Ceremony organised by the Centre of Development and Resources for Students (CEDARS) at The University of Hong Kong (HKU) was held on 29 April 2023 (Sat) in Rayson Huang Theatre at HKU, with HKU staff, students and family members celebrated the triumphs together.
Professor Ian Holliday, HKU Vice-President and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Teaching and Learning), officiated at the Ceremony and extended his warm congratulations to student awardees for their distinguished achievements and contributions to the HKU Community and beyond. “The award-winning students here today strive for excellence both inside and outside the classroom. They demonstrate their academic talent, leadership skills, and commitment to social services through competitions and selections at local to international levels. Their outstanding achievements will build a solid foundation for challenges ahead, and empower them to be future leaders and innovators of Hong Kong and beyond.” said Professor Holliday.
The Ceremony aims to honour and celebrate the outstanding achievements and exemplary attitude of our finest students from different backgrounds and to inspire the university community to learn from their dedication.
This year, four types of awards have been presented to over 350 students who have excelled exceptionally in external competitions and endeavours as well as for those who have made outstanding contributions to the University and the community. Award categories range from (1) winners of external competitions / awards; (2) outstanding learning experiences; (3) contributions to the community; and (4) awards of the CEDARS Reward Scheme.
“Contribution to the Community Award is a new award category this year. I’m proud of my students, who have initiated projects responding to the needs arising from the local and overseas communities. Our students have been serving the community with the talents equipped during their university studies. Their works have showcased their care, compassion, and commitment to HKU and the wider community, on a local and international level,” said Professor Samson Tse, Dean of Student Affairs. “This celebratory event in which over 200 staff, students and family members participated does not just signify the personal success of student awardees but also the communal achievement between HKU students and their supporters, including staff and family members who have been standing by them throughout their learning journey.”
