HKU holds Career Fair 2024
28 Jan 2024
The HKU Career Fair 2024, held from January 22 to 26, attracted the participation of more than 170 companies and organisations from a diverse array of sectors, including business, consultancy, finance, technology, and government. The fair also featured a strong presence of innovative enterprises in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence and machine learning, renewable energy, biotechnology, and genetic engineering. Over 5,000 students attended the event.
The five-day event served as an invaluable platform for students and recent graduates to explore career opportunities and engage with representatives from leading employers across various industries. Throughout the event, attendees benefited from career preparation workshops and CV clinics, designed to equip them with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in today's competitive job market. In addition, specialised sessions were tailored for non-local postgraduate students to offer insights on job search strategies in Hong Kong, the process of applying for work visas, with first-hand experiences shared by non-local alumni regarding their own job searches and employment.
“HKU has always been at the forefront of excellence, as reflected in our graduates consistently ranking first for the highest employment rates and commanding the highest average salaries. This achievement is not ours alone; it is a shared victory, by all of the esteemed employers who provide our students with platforms to excel,” said Professor Samson Tse, Dean of Student Affairs.
“Despite the headwinds of a shifting global economic landscape and rapid technological advancements, the optimism surrounding our students' career prospects remains strong, taking the adaptability and resilience of our students in the face of change into consideration,” said Ms Kate Lam, Director of Careers and Placement of HKU.
“Looking ahead, we are also excited to focus on integrating AI literacy with students’ career education. We are proud to announce the launch of our Career AI initiatives. These initiatives will prepare our students for the digital future, also offer employers an avenue to engage with interns centred around Artificial Intelligence.” Professor Tse added.
A series of Career AI initiatives will be launched in February including “Career AIgnition Day” on February 23 (Friday), to be attended by high-profile speakers to discuss the topics of employment in the age of AI; and a first among Hong Kong universities AI Internship programme ‘AiPEX@HKU’, developed in collaboration with industry giants to provide our students with invaluable, future-focused job opportunities.
