The "Reunification. Carving. Dreams" exhibition, held by the University of Hong Kong Libraries (HKUIL) from mid-June to showcase over 50 artworks by Hong Kong acclaimed sculptor Yo Shing (Mr Cheung Sing Hung), has successfully concluded.
Yo Shing's mastery in calligraphy, painting, ceramics, bamboo, and wood seal carving has garnered him widespread recognition. To celebrate and commemorate the National Day and the handover, Yo Shing creates large-scale sculptures or ceramic artworks reflecting Hong Kong's development at that time.
This year marks the 75th anniversary of the National Day, the 27th anniversary of the Hong Kong handover, and the 111th anniversary of the University of Hong Kong's library. To honour these milestones, HKUL held the exhibition at the main library to feature Yo Shing's creations from the past 40 years, including his two iconic sculptures "Reunification" and "Perseverance".
On August 14, Mr Chen Zhijun, Deputy Director of the Cultural and Artistic Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR, visited HKUL and was introduced to the exhibits by Yo Shing. Ms Flora Ng, the Chief Information Officer and University Librarian, gave Mr Chen an overview of the library's facilities.
Ms Ng stated that HKUL will continue to promote traditional Chinese culture, with the aim of fostering an appreciation among all students, alumni, and the general public. She expressed her gratitude towards Mr Chen for sharing his valuable insights on promoting Chinese culture, as well as towards all those who attended and contributed to the success of the exhibition.
