Class of 2024 AsiaGlobal Fellows
HKU welcomes 17 inspiring leaders from 16 countries on campus
26 Aug 2024
The Asia Global Institute (AGI) at The University of Hong Kong announces the 2024 class list of its signature initiative, the AsiaGlobal Fellows (AGF) Program. From a parliament member of a Middle East country, the chairperson of a national art council in Africa, a foreign policy director serving in the office of a European country president, to a champion of social justice and mental health using technology for the wider good in ASEAN, seventeen catalysts of change in their own fields have been selected as this year’s AGFs.
The Fellows arrive at the HKU campus today (August 26) to embark on a 13-week journey of understanding Asian perspectives first hand, including study trips to Mainland China and Indonesia.
“I would like to offer my sincere congratulations to these 17 outstanding individuals for being selected to participate in this year’s Program after a rigorous and highly selective process. They will be joining a strong network of AsiaGlobal Fellows around the world who are highly motivated to bring about positive changes for mankind,” said Kwok-chuen Kwok, Director of the AGF Program. Running into its eighth year, the AGF Program has nurtured a total of 91 fellows coming from 54 countries.
Heiwai Tang, Director, AGI, and Victor and William Fung Professor in Economics, added: “The mission of the AGI is to generate and disseminate research and ideas on global issues from Asian perspectives. Through the AGF Program, we aim to cultivate a global community of exceptional leaders. These leaders, after spending thirteen weeks in Hong Kong and select Asian countries participating in various types of activities, will be better informed and prepared to navigate Asia's complex and rapidly evolving landscape, thereby promoting a shared, prosperous, and sustainable future.”
The AGF Program is supported by the generous contributions from the New World Group Charity Foundation and the Tanoto Foundation.
