The new Faculty has an establishment of over 70 full-time academics and it will continue to grow in the future. The selection of a new Dean will be conducted very soon. At present, the School of Business is headed by Professor Richard Y.C. Wong, and the School of Economics and Finance by Dr. W.C. Suen.
The new Faculty will embrace the academic activities of the two Schools, offering a wide range of programmes to 1,000 undergraduate students and more than 500 taught and research postgraduate students annually. The undergraduate programmes offered are: Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and Finance, Bachelor of Business Administration (Information Systems), Bachelor of Business Administration (Law), Bachelor of Economics, Bachelor of Economics and Finance, and Bachelor of Finance. As regards postgraduate studies, in addition to the research programmes leading to the degrees of MPhil and PhD, the Faculty offers a variety of taught master programmes, including Master of Business Administration, Master of Business Administration (International), Master of Economics, and Master of Finance.

A new Faculty of Business and Economics of the University of Hong Kong (HKU) was established on 1 January 2001 by amalgamating the School of Business and the School of Economics and Finance. It is the University's latest strategic move to re-position and fortify its provision of Business and Economics education in the territory and to steer the long term development of the two disciplines, in particular that of Finance.
