HKU to organise“Technology and the Economy” Public Lecture Series

In celebration of the University of Hong Kong's 90th Anniversary, the School of Economics and Finance and the Hong Kong Institute of Economics and Business Strategy at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) are to organise a series of five public lectures entitled Technology and the Economy.
As the first speaker of the series, Professor Timothy Bresnahan of Stanford University will address the Microsoft Case and the Value of Competitive Innovation. The lecture will be held on THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 2001 AT 5:30PM AT THE RAYSON HUANG THEATRE of the University's main campus.
Timothy Bresnahan is Professor of Economics at Stanford University and Gordon and Betty Moore Senior Fellow at Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research (SIEPR). He is Director of the Centre for Research in Employment and Economic Growth in SIEPR. Previously, he has served as Chief Economist of the Antitrust Division of the US Department of Justice and head of the Information Technology in Use research programme and of the Stanford Computer Industry Project. His research interests lie in the economics of industry, especially of high-technology industry. Recently, he has been writing on the competition and the structure of the computer and software industries, on the impact of information technology on labor demand and income distribution, and on the implications of entrepreneurship in high technology industries for growth and change.

Members of the Press and interested public are cordially invited to attend. Admission to the public lecture series is free of charge but registration is requested. Due to the overwhelming response for the first lecture by Professor Timothy Bresnahan on the Microsoft case, registration for the first event is already closed. Standing room only is available on a first-come first-served basis in the Rayson Huang Theatre's foyer, where a large screen shall be set up for walk-in viewers.
