The Second Hong Kong Conference On Quality In Teaching And Learning In Higher Education
23 May 2001
The Second Hong Kong Conference on Quality in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education sponsored by the University Grants Committee, under the title The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning: New Challenges for Educational Practice in Higher Education in Hong Kong, will be held between May 24 and 26 at the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine in Aberdeen. This conference is organised by the eight UGC-funded institutions and hosted by the University of Hong Kong this year.
Following the success of the first Conference on Quality in Teaching and Learning in December 1998, the conference aims to provide an occasion for institutions to showcase and celebrate best practices in teaching and learning in higher education and to share the outcomes of successful teaching and learning development projects.
The Opening Ceremony of the three-day conference will be held at 6:15pm on Thursday, May 24, at Run Run Shaw Hall, 1st floor, Hong Kong Academy of Medicine, Aberdeen. Professor Ian Davies, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hong Kong, and Dr Alice Lam, Chairman of the University Grants Committee, will deliver opening addresses followed by two keynote speeches by Professor Edmond Ko, Vice President, City University of Hong Kong, and Dr Maryellen Weimer, Pennsylvania State Berks Lehigh Valley College, USA.
On May 25, twenty parallel sessions with 76 paper presentations from the academics of local tertiary institutions will be made. At the Exhibition Hall on the ground floor, each of the eight institutions will have an exhibition booth featuring the institution's efforts and projects in teaching development supported by the UGC's Teaching Development Grants, the institution's own funding and other external funding sources. The exhibition is open to the public.
Members of the media are cordially invited to attend the opening ceremony and any other sessions of the conference. For further information for the conference and the topics of the paper presentations, please visit the website at www.hku.hk/caut/scholar/index.htm.
