Dr. the Hon. Rosanna WONG Yick-ming, JP, Chairman, Education Commission, Professor Ian Davies, Vice-Chancellor, the University of Hong Kong, and Professor Amy B.M. Tsui, Head of the Department of Curriculum Studies, will officiate the opening ceremony at 10:30 a.m. and deliver opening addresses, followed by keynote speech by Professor John Furlong, Cardiff University. Experience sharing and parallel sessions focusing on lesson analysis and lesson studies of different subjects will be conducted.
UPDP, set up by the Department of Curriculum Studies, the University of Hong Kong, is aimed at enhancing the professional development of teachers from initial preparation to continual advancement throughout their career. The focus of this phase is to facilitate school improvement through the creation of a mentoring force. The conference will provide a platform for furthering ties with partnership schools and fostering new relations with non-partnership schools so as to extend its scope.
Professor Furlong had contributed a great deal to the Oxford Partnership Scheme in U.K. and has recently done a review of school-university partnership in U.K. as well as elsewhere in the world.

HKU's Department of Curriculum Studies to organise June Conference 2001 on “The Development of a Mentoring Force for School Improvement Through School – University Partnership”

The third June Conference of the Unified Professional Development Project (UPDP) supported by the Quality Education Fund, under the title of “The Development of a Mentoring Force for School Improvement through School – University Partnership”, will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2001, from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Rayson Huang Theatre, the University of Hong Kong.
