Dr. McPherson, Associate Professor, and researcher of the Department conducted a survey of 20 Elderly Care-and Attention Homes in Hong Kong. The survey found that the background noise of 19 homes were so high that clear speech understanding was not possible for older people. The noise tends to cause them to withdraw from social situations at the homes, and will also cause voice problems to the elderly and staff who work inside the homes.
Following the announcement of the study results, researchers will also suggest solutions for the problem.
