From 21-26 October 2001, the local and overseas scientists who have attended the workshops are meeting at the Lecture Theatre LE2, Library Extension, the University of Hong Kong to discuss their findings and to put them into a modern perspective that will assist the Government in formulating plans for the greater protection of its coastal waters. There are a number of keynote speeches by eminent scientists who have all undertaken field research in Hong Kong and members of the press are welcome to meet them at the University of Hong Kong during the course of the conference. Since 1977 and at three year intervals ever since, research workshops organised by the University of Hong Kong have studied the changes that have taken place in Hong Kong's marine environment in relation to pollution, overfishing, dredging and reclamation.
