The University of Hong Kong and the Sun Yat-sen University has been conducting joint research projects in medicine and life science for many years. Last year, the Sun Yat-sen University merged with the Sun Yat-sen Medical University making it an important strategic partner of the University of Hong Kong, particularly in research on the development of the Pearl River Delta region. The University of Hong Kong has also set up a task force to study the development of the Pearl River Delta including its infra-structure development, land use and resources deployment and sharing.

The University of Hong Kong and Sun Yat-sen University Join Efforts to develop the Pearl River Delta

The University of Hong Kong and the Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou, signed an academic collaborative agreement today (Wednesday, April 17, 2002) on the establishment of the long term strategies for the sustainable development projects of the Pearl River Delta. The agreement was signed by Professor W I R Davies, Vice-Chancellor, the University of Hong Kong and Professor Huang Daren, President, Sun Yat-sen University. Other guests including Professor Xu Jiarui, Vice-President, Sun Yat-sen University, Professor Yan Guangmei, Vice-President, Sun Yat-sen University, Professor C F Lee, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, the University of Hong Kong and Professor A G O Yeh, Chair Professor of Centre of Urban Planning and Environmental Management, the University of Hong Kong attended the signing ceremony.
