The Summer Science Institute, which is the first of its kind to be organised by a tertiary institution in Hong Kong, is to provide hands-on learning experience for upper-form school students through a variety of integrated science topics and interaction with university teachers and students.
Through the plenary lectures, learning workshops and scientific projects for the students in the Summer Science Institute, students can learn about everyday science in an interactive and creative way. In addition to enchancing students' science knowledge, the programme also provides students with an early experience of university life through recreational activities and accommodation at HKU's residential halls.
An opening ceremony will be held on August 1 at which Professor Ian Davies, the Vice-Chancellor of HKU, Mr Peter Cheung, Secretary-General of the University Grants Committee and Dr Frederick C C Leung, Dean of HKU's Faculty of Science will be the officiating guests. Details of the opening ceremony are as follows:
Date: Thursday, August 1, 2002
Time: 10:30 am
Venue: Loke Yew Hall
Reporters/photographers are cordially invited to attend. For further enquiries, please contact Miss Avon Sit at HKU's Faculty of Science on 2241 5286.
