The Centre of Buddhist Studies of HKU is unveiled thanks to the generous donations from Tung Lin Kok Yuen and Glorious Sun Group. It aims to form a solid research and teaching base for Buddhist studies and to develop links between relevant Buddhist concepts and the fields of education, psychology, social work and health care, with a view to applying Buddhist teachings in a modern social context. The Centre began to offer undergraduate courses which focus on the fundamental understanding and practical applications of Buddhist teachings last year. A taught master programme and research degrees in Buddhist studies have been launched this year to provide an opportunity for graduates to continue with an in-depth study of Buddhism.
Other guests at the ceremony include Venerable Kok Kwong, President, Hong Kong Buddhist Association, Professor Jao Tsung-I, Mrs Hui Lo Vera Joyce, Vice-Chairman of Tung Lin Kok Yuen, and Dr Charles Yeung, Chairman of the Glorious Sun Group. Details of the inauguaration ceremony of Centre of Buddhist and the Master of Buddhist Studies Degree Programme are as follows:

HKU to Launch Territory

The University of Hong Kong (HKU) is to launch the territory's first academic centre on Buddhist studies at a ceremony officiated by guests including Mrs Betty Tung and Professor Lap-Chee Tsui, on October 7, 2002.
