AIPE 2004 is mounted by HKU's School of Economics and Finance in conjunction with The Fund for American Studies and Georgetown University in the US. This year, 46 students were recruited from Hong Kong, Mainland, USA, Japan, Korea, Singapore and Tajikistan.
Students enrolled in this 3-week intensive summer academic programme will study the principles of free market economies and political concepts such as the rule of law, separation of powers, and the role of an independent press. Students are chosen on their English proficiency, university transcripts, demonstrated leadership ability, academic awards and interest in exploring the ideals of a free-market economy and democracy as reflected, for instance, in their 500-word essay. Students will also have to pass a final examination before being awarded 3 semester hours of academic credit from Georgetown University.

Mrs Anson Chan to speak at the AIPE 2004 Graduation Ceremony

Mrs Anson Chan Fang On-Sang will speak at the Graduation Ceremony for the students of the Asia Institute for Political Economy (AIPE) summer academic program 2004. Entitled "Freedoms", her speech will be delivered tomorrow (Friday, August 20, 2004) at 5:00 pm at Cheung Kung Hai Conference Centre, Lecture Theatre 4, G/F., Academic and Administration Block, Faculty of Medicine Building, 21 Sassoon Road, The University of Hong Kong.
