Professor Tsui exhorted the incoming students to reap full advantage of their time at the University to engage in life long learning; whole-person development; to be creative and to be leaders; and to attach importance to the use of language and perfect their communication skills. "I hope you will take advantage of this interactive, student-based approach to teaching and learning. Knowledge is infinite and your time at the University is limited, so the most important lesson we can impact to you is the way to learn. Learning how to learn is your most important task," said Professor Tsui.
Professor Tsui also hoped the students would share HKU's pride in the past and present achievements of its staff and students – and also its humbling awareness of the hard work and commitment needed to sustain and enhance the University's hard-won reputation.
Dr John Powell, Dean of Student Affairs, Mrs Teresa Tong, Chairman of Convocation and Mr Chan Chi Kin, President of the Students' Union, and one of our distinguished alumni, Mr Lam Shum-Chee (BA 1967), also addressed the students.
The ceremony was held at 10:00am today at the University's Loke Yew Hall and was attended by students from all ten faculties.
