Began in 1996, the Competition provides a forum for high school students in Canada to learn about and enjoy aspects of computer programming. Participants now number more than 2,500 from 250 schools across the country.
With the aim to extend the competition to other parts of the world, the Competition chose Hong Kong as the first trial site outside Canada and HKU is the local organizer.
The Hong Kong contest will be known as Stage 1 of the Competition, and will be held on March 2, 2005 (Wednesday) at 4:15 to 7:30 p.m. in Room 312, Haking Wong Building, HKU. Seventy-two students from 22 secondary schools in Hong Kong have registered for the competition.
The top two senior level scorers of the local contest will be given an all-expenses paid trip to Canada to take part in Stage 2 of the Competition in May this year at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada. The week-long event will include seminars, a contest as well as extra-curricular activities. The Hong Kong students will be able to enjoy the opportunity to interact with the top 20 competitors from Canada.
All participants who attended the Hong Kong contest will receive a Certificate of Participation, and those who score 60 out of 75 will be awarded a Certificate of Merit.
Members of the press are cordially invited to attend. For enquiries, please contact Miss Polo Leung at External Relations Office, HKU, Tel: 2859 2600.
