Professor Louie joins HKU with a proven track record of research and scholarship, as well as solid administrative experience. Prior to HKU, Professor Louie was the Professor of Chinese and Head of the China and Korea Centre, Faculty of Asian Studies, The Australian National University.
Professor Louie enjoys an international reputation in Chinese studies, and has published widely on the politics of contemporary Chinese philosophy, modern Chinese literature, Chinese masculinity and Chinese language. In recognition of his excellence in arts education and research, Professor Louie was elected to the Australian Humanities Academy and is now its international secretary. He is also a member of the Australia-China Council and the chief editor of Asian Studies Review, a prestigious academic journal in the humanities discipline.
Professor Louie received his Bachelor of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from Sydney University, and his Master of Philosophy degree from CUHK.
Professor Lap-Chee Tsui, Vice-Chancellor of HKU, looked forward to Professor Louie's deanship by saying: "as a renowned sinologist, Professor Louie comes to us with a strong academic vision and commitment to arts education and research. Renowned Sinologist Leads HKU's Faculty of Arts

The University of Hong Kong (HKU) proudly announces that Professor Kam Louie, renowned sinologist, assumed his duty of deanship of the Faculty of Arts late November last year.
