The University of Hong Kong (HKU) announces that Professor Ian Holliday assumed his duty of deanship of the Faculty of Social Sciences in September this year.
Professor Holliday joins HKU with a proven track record of research and scholarship, as well as solid administrative experience. Prior to HKU, Professor Holliday was the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, and Chair Professor of Policy Studies in the Department of Public and Social Administration, the City University of Hong Kong. Before coming to Hong Kong, he taught at the University of Manchester and the New York University and worked on research projects in Madrid, Spain and France.
Professor Holliday received his bachelor's degree from the University of Cambridge and doctoral degree from the University of Oxford. His research focuses on problems of policy coordination in complex modern states, health care systems in East Asia and issues of political reform in Burma/Myanmar.
HKU Vice-Chancellor Professor Lap-Chee Tsui welcomed his arrival as he said "we are confident that he would be able to help the Faculty achieve its aspiration to strengthen its reputation as a leader in social and political science education and research globally".
Professor Holliday will meet with the press on Friday 20 October 2006 from 11:00am to 12:00 noon at the Faculty Office on Room 401 4/F Ming Wah Complex, HKU.
