HKU sets up Working Group to seek improvements in Private Patient Services

Following the decision made by its Council at its meeting yesterday, The University of Hong Kong today (July 12, 2007) announced the setting up of a Council-level Working Group to follow-up the findings of the Committee of Enquiry which was established to investigate billing arrangement in respect of private patients of a clinical department of the University.
The Working Group will, as soon as practicable and in consultation with the Hospital Authority and other relevant parties as necessary, introduce measures to improve the existing systems and procedures relating to the provision of private patient services by the clinical departments of the University and outside practice of clinical teachers.
The University has invited the following persons to be members of the Working Group:
Dr York Liao, lay member of the Council (Chairman)
Dr the Hon Leong Che-hung, lay member of the Council
Professor John Malpas, Pro-Vice-Chancellor
Professor Raymond Liang, Acting Dean of the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine
"We take the Council's instruction on board immediately as we see this as a pro-active and progressive measure to seek continuous improvements which enables the University to excel and move ahead with time," said Professor Lap-Chee Tsui, Vice-Chancellor of the University.
In its meeting on July 11, 2007, the Council has received and accepted the findings of a report submitted by the Committee of Enquiry.
