Harvard and HKU Singers Celebrate the University of Hong Kong’s Centenary
27 Jun 2011
To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the University of Hong Kong (HKU), two a cappella singing groups from HKU and Harvard University - HKU Mosaic and the Harvard Krokodiloes - gave a joint performance to a full-house in the HKU Centenary Celebration Concert Tour-Hong Kong, singing to the University community and members of the public for the fourth consecutive year.
The concert, organised by the HKU China Affairs Office, was successfully held today (June 27) in Loke Yew Hall in the historic Main Building and had an audience of over 600.
"Apart from Hong Kong and Shanghai, we are going to give a joint performance with HKU Mosaic in Beijing for the first time this year. The Harvard Krokodiloes are really excited to see more and more people in China getting a taste of a capella music. We know this year marks the 100th anniversary of the University of Hong Kong and we are happy to be part of the Centenary Celebrations. It is a great opportunity for HKU Mosaic and the Harvard Krokodiloes to promote this musical form in Greater China. We hope we can bring something new to the cultural scene in China," said the Harvard Krokodiloes.
All the eleven members of HKU Mosaic joined hands with the Harvard Krokodiloes to sing "Congratulations" to celebrate HKU's 100th anniversary.
Following Hong Kong, the two A Cappella singing groups will also perform at the Shanghai Grand Theatre on July 2 and debut in the Beijing Concert Hall on July 6. Thanks to the overwhelming audience response, all three concerts were sold out very quickly.
