The HKU Law Video Archive (video.law.hku.hk) has been launched as one of the celebration initiatives of the 50th Anniversary of the Faculty of Law. The Archive houses over 1,000 video and audio files of important public lectures by eminent academics and judges, keynote speeches at conferences, as well as public speeches by international dignitaries and community leaders delivered on various occasions, including the Faculty’s graduation ceremonies. Users can search by fields of research, name of speakers or nature of the speeches.
The Archive also provides a list of the most viewed videos. Among them are ‘Judges, Access to Justice, the Rule of Law and the Court of Final Appeal under “One Country Two Systems”’ by the Right Hon. the Lord Neuberger of Abbotsbury (13 September 2017); ‘Legislation and Adjudication of Juvenile crimes in Mainland China’ by Judge Huang Yong-wei (30 October 2015); and a recent book talk “An ongoing journey” by Professor Johannes Chan SC (Hon) and Dr Margaret Ng (11 October 2018).
New entries of the Archive include the Distinguished Lectures “Sapientia et Virtus – The Contributions of Jurisprudence” (4 October 2018) and Digital Financial Transformation: Finance, Technology and Regulation (22 November 2018).
The University is always a treasure trove of knowledge, and by making these public lectures available online to the public, it represents a modest step to make available this huge body of knowledge for the benefit of the community at large. The launch of the Video Archive can hopefully make a modest contribution to cultivate a better understanding of our legal system and its underlying values.
