HKU Faculty of Engineering launches Global Engineering and Business Dual Degree Programme (JS6937) to nurture students with innovative and entrepreneurship spirit
27 May 2020
In recent years, an increasing number of young engineering graduates start pursuing their careers in start-up businesses. “Innovation and Entrepreneurship” training becomes an essential element of engineering education nowadays. In view of this, the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Business and Economics at The University of Hong Kong (HKU) will jointly offer a Global Engineering and Business Programme (JS6937) in which students can receive a dual degree in Bachelor of Engineering and Bachelor of Business Administration after the completion of five years of study at HKU.
While the normal study track for the Bachelor of Engineering in HKU is 4 years, the double degrees in Global Engineering and Business Programme offer a fast track for students in which they can obtain two Bachelor degrees with an additional year of study. Students can start taking business-related courses as soon as they are in Year 2 of their studies with a choice of business majors such as Entrepreneurship, Design and Innovation; Finance; Human Resource Management; Information Systems and Analytics; and Marketing.
With the opening of the Faculty’s new iconic landmark, Tam Wing Fan Innovation Wing, this year, Engineering students will have more opportunities to expand their imagination and realise ideas in this state-of-the-art facility. Students admitted into this programme will have global exchange opportunity to study abroad in prestigious universities such as University of Cambridge, University of California, Berkeley, University of British Columbia and Tohoku University, etc, where they will be nurtured to gain unique experience, outstanding visions and exceptional capabilities.
Professor Kenneth K.Y. Wong, Chairman of Engineering Admissions Committee, said, “Through this inter-disciplinary programme, we hope students can acquire professional knowledge in both Engineering and Business in a global perspective. There are also global learning opportunities, such as global exchange to study abroad in prestigious universities, international joint student project/competition, and global internship, etc. Students admitted to this programme may be invited to join the Engineering Dean’s Club membership where members will be awarded ‘Dean’s Award for Engineering Students’ with a total of HK$20,000 and personally mentored by the Dean of Engineering.”
The engineering programmes are accredited by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE). In addition, upon completion of all required subjects specified in the CIMA mapping guidelines, graduates will be exempted from part of the CIMA examinations and will be eligible to obtain the Chartered Global Management Accountants (CGMA) designation.
The deadline for updating JUPAS choices before the release of HKDSE examination results is June 3, 2020.
