“Safeguard Our Children by Oral Care”
Jockey Club Children Oral Health Project
Press Conference for Official Launch of the Project
06 Nov 2020
Tooth decay in preschool children, or early childhood caries (ECC), is one of the most prevalent diseases in children which would lead to negative impacts to children’s growth and development.
Supported by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, Faculty of Dentistry of the University of Hong Kong launches the “Jockey Club Children Oral Health Project”. This project aims to screen Hong Kong’s preschool children for tooth decay, control existing cavities and to prevent further decay.
We invited selected schools to participate in our pioneer scheme of the project in academic year 2019/2020. Starting from the 2020/21 academic year, all kindergartens in Hong Kong are invited to participate in the project on a voluntary basis. The project provides the following free-of-charge services to the participated schools:
1. Dental check and silver diamine fluoride (SDF) solution treatment to K1-K3 school children for caries control;
2. Oral health education seminar for parents;
3. Individual consultation for parents of the children who have severe tooth decay; and
4. Training for teachers.
