The Financial Secretary Mr Paul Chan delivered the 2022-23 Budget today. A spokesperson from the University of Hong Kong weclomes the meaures and said:
“The University of Hong Kong welcomes the government’s budget measures to support Hong Kong’s economic development, and development in research and innovation technology in the long run and at the present time.
We welcome the government’s continuous commitment and investment in Innovation and Technology research. We also welcome the government’s initiatives in actively investing resources to attract overseas talents and in supporting university start-up companies, thereby creating learning and development opportunities for students and researchers which are consistent with the development strategies of HKU in teaching, learning and research.
We are excited to learn that the government plans to set up an InnoLife Healthtech Hub in HK‑Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Park. HKU will contribute to the effort with our Laboratories established under the two InnoHK clusters and our State Key Laboratories, and also our wide network of partnerships with outstanding universities and scientific research institutions around the world.
The Budget places emphasis on Life and Health technology and research, and the development of digital economy, and green city, with the goal to support the country’s achieving "3060 Target" in relation to carbon emission peak and carbon neutrality, and HK’s moving towards its carbon neutrality target by 2050. Our outstanding scholars and scientific research talents in the fields will continue to engage in cutting-edge research, and share our pioneering research achievements with the community in this regard."
