HKU presents Long Service Awards to Staff Members
A total of 181 staff members from more than 50 departments of the University of Hong Kong (HKU) will be honoured for their loyalty and contributions to the University in a ceremony to be held on February 15 (Tuesday). They will receive Long Service Awards presented by HKU Vice-Chancellor Professor Lap-Chee Tsui. This year, 10 staff members are recipients of the 35-year award while 49 and 122 will receive the 25-year and 15-year awards respectively. Details of the ceremony are as follows:

Criminal Defamation in the New Media Environment - The Case of the People's Republic of China
Since 2008, a series of controversial incidents involving prosecution for criminal defamation have aroused immense public attention in the People's Republic of China (China). This talk will provide detailed analysis into this area of criminal defamation in China. The finding is based on a larger research project, which involves the analysis of a total of sixty criminal defamation cases occurring in China in the past three decades. In particular, the talk will discuss the relationship between criminal defamation, online activism, and local protectionism. It will also examine interventions by the central authorities in Beijing to halt the rising trend of criminal defamation prosecutions and discuss the possibilities of criminal defamation reform in China. The speaker Dr. Yan Mei Ning is an associate professor with the Cheung Kong School of Journalism and Communication of Shantou University.

HKU to hold Award Presentation Ceremony for Excellence in Teaching and Research 2010
The University of Hong Kong (HKU) will hold its annual Award Presentation Ceremony for Excellence in Teaching and Research 2010 on February 17 (Thursday) to honour and celebrate the dedication and outstanding teaching and research achievements of distinguished colleagues. HKU Vice-Chancellor Professor Lap-Chee Tsui will preside at the ceremony and HKU Council Chairman Dr the Honourable Leong Che-hung will be the Guest of Honour. During the ceremony, six categories of awards will be conferred upon a number of our colleagues which include the University Distinguished Teaching Award, Outstanding Teaching Award, Outstanding Research Student Supervisor Award, Outstanding Researcher Award, Outstanding Young Researcher Award, and Research Output Prize. This year, a team award has been introduced under the Outstanding Teaching Award to honour distinguished team work by faculty members. Details are as follows
