September 10 is the World Suicide Prevention Day. The Hong Kong Jockey Club Centre for Suicide Research and Prevention (CSRP) of the University of Hong Kong (HKU) will hold a press conference jointly with the Suicide Prevention Services (SPS) on September 10, 2024 (Tuesday). Professor Paul YIP Siu-fai, Director of the Centre, will present the latest suicide statistics for Hong Kong and explain the findings at the conference. CSRP’s Training Consultant and Clinical Psychologist Ms Lisa HO Sin-hang will analyse the challenges faced by teenagers nowadays and share relevant suggestions for guidance. SPS’s Program Manager Mr Justin Leung, will share their experiences and observations in providing elderly suicide prevention services. The conference has also invited Dr NGAN Man-yu, member of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong (Kowloon East constituency) to talk about the series of measures currently being implemented in the Kwun Tong district and how appropriate resource allocation can help improve mental health issues among students.
